Australia’s SportsBetting Is The Fastest Growing Form Of Gambling
The IBISWorld, Australia’s leading business information analysts, came out with a report stating that sportsbetting became the fastest expanding betting form of the country. The business has been an expansion of 14.7% over the last 5 years.
In that same report, they said that the increase in marketing efforts are one of the factors that has been greatly helping the growth of sportsbetting in Australia. Another growth factor is the wideness of different bets that are offered to gamblers. It is stated that bettors placed bets on sports for a total of AUS $360 Million all of last year. This is a tiny fraction next to the AUS 13.8 Billion that was gambled on slots machines and poker machines.
IBISWorld Statements In Report
The following are the strong points that the IBISWorld stated: “Sportsbetting is certainly the industry’s star performer with market shares either stagnating or in decline across all other segments.
The only other exception to this decline is gambling in casinos, which has increased to 20 percent of gambling expenditure over the past three years.”
They then continued by adding: “People most likely to engage in sportsbetting are younger professionally employed individuals, often single, with significant disposable incomes.
Sportsbetting is most accessible online and, given this demographic is particularly comfortable in the online environment, this is another factor driving growth.”
Where Is All This Coming From?
After a thorough study of the market, the IBISWorld delcared that the largest percentage of sportsbetting came out of New South Wales with 38%. In 2nd place you have Victoria followed by Queensland. What dominates the whole market is the slots and poker machines found in pubs and clubs. They are told to bring in the biggest percentage of revenue, in fact they are the most dominant in all of Australia’s states besides the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
IBISWorld Explaining Their Report
After releasing their report on the gambling situation of Australia, the IBISWorld explained the following: “More than 70 percent of us have a flutter at least once a year especially in line with key cultural events such as ANZAC Day and the Melbourne Cup.
About 60 percent of us buy a lottery ticket each year while 30 percent play the ‘pokies’ and seven percent of us try our luck with sportsbetting.”
