Utah Legislation Against Online Gambling Signed

Mar 27, 2023 // Categories: Latest Gambling & Casino News.

After a long and tiring battle, it has has finally come to an end and is really not what people expected. Gary Herbert, the Republican governor of Utah has discontinued all hopes of ever being able to gamble online. Unlike the online gambling prohibition of 2006, this one targets the residents of Utah and prohibits them from placing any kind of bet online. If someone is caught infringing this law, they could be taken into custody and face severe sanctions.

What Happened?

The bill 108 was first brought up y Stephen Sandstrom, a Republican member of the Nevada House of Representatives. Unsurprisingly, this bill passed with a huge amounts of votes by both chambers of the Utah State Legislature. It is now illegal for all the residents of Utah to place any form of wager online. This includes placing bets via a computer, cellphone, tablet, etc.

Along with that, they blocked all chances of new aboriginal casinos of ever being opened in Utah. This came directly from the legislation as a comeback of federal measures that are being reviewed by the Congress which would potentially legalize online gambling for the states that aren’t against it.

Words Of The Republican

During a press conference, Stephen sandstrom said the following: “We want to keep Utah free from the negative impacts of legalised gambling. Without courageous leadership to block Internet gaming, Utah could see Indian casinos popping up statewide in just a few years.Utah is only one of two states that prohibit any form of gambling, Hawaii being the other. Unfortunately, this could change soon because Hawaii is currently considering legalising gaming leaving Utah to fight the principled fight against legalised gambling on its own.”
