MGM Resorts International had big plans of opening an all-inclusive casino resort in Brimfield, Massachusetts. I mean simply think about it, would a huge, world known, casino resort fit in between a Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie? I do not think so! Reasons For Abandon Of Plans

The main problem they encountered was that their 150 acres of undeveloped land had no direct exit from the highway which could potentially create a huge mass of traffic load. Not to mention that the piece of land is adjacent to the Massachusetts turnpike.

Another reason why this whole project got abandoned was because the residents of Brimfield weren’t to thrilled of having a casino resort in their neighborhood for the main reason that there would be a significant rise in traffic congestion. The other reason is that they are a relatively calm community do not wish it to become another Las Vegas strip.

Before giving up on their initial plans, MGM Resorts International offered funds for the construction of a new turnpike interchange and access road to make everything convenient for both the Massachusetts residents and MGM’s future customers. It is only after a small analysis that they realized doing so was going to cost a lot of money and could take many years before being complete.

After making their announcement, MGM’s chief marketing officer, Bill Hornbuckle, shared the following words with the media: “The unique nature of MGM’s plans for an all-inclusive world-class resort of the Brimfield site, and our growing understanding of the needed scope for its infrastructure, simply do not allow us to pursue the comprehensive MGM resort originally envisioned here.”
